SUMMARY:The Art of Pruning
DESCRIPTION:Good pruning is one of the keys to a happy and healthy plant. The last in this year’s Master Gardening series at the Hoquiam Timberland Library will be presented Saturday\, June 17th from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.  Come learn the secrets of proper pruning. WSU Master Gardeners Garnet Kuronen and Jude Armstrong will begin the class with a discussion of basic pruning skills and techniques.  This will be followed by a demonstration and practice for attendees\, using the plants outside in the library’s landscaping.  No equipment\, tools\, fee or pre-registration is required.  Just come to the library\, located at 420 7th Street in Hoquiam.  Be prepared to improve your gardening skills. \nFor more information about the workshop\, contact the library at 360-532-1710. \nRequests for reasonable accommodation need to be made two weeks prior to the program. DESCRIPTION:This month’s workshop will cover Winter Native Wood Plant Identification.  This is an easy walking tour\, but dress for the weather. \nIf you love native plants\, you won’t want to miss the December 3rd workshop on identification of woody plants in winter. This is a free event and open to the public.\nThe workshop will be held at Lake Sylvia State Park\, where we will meet at the kitchen (across the bridge\, next to the swimming area) at 10 a.m. for a short walk and talk about the native woody plants seen along the way. \nThe walk will be led by newly certified Master Gardener John Kugen and intern Don Barton\, both seasoned\, career woodsmen. They will share their knowledge about the native trees and shrubs\, along with specific identification cues. \nFriends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Parks (FOSLS) will join the Master Gardeners to sponsor this winter workshop and promote the enjoyment of our State Parks in every season. Refreshments will follow in the kitchen around noon.\nPlease come dressed and prepared for the weather. \nAfter the workshop there is a half hour plant clinic.  So\, bring your questions and plant samples if you have them.

DESCRIPTION:Landscaping with Native Plants\n\nSaturday\, November 5\, the Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties invite you to join us for a fun and educational class on landscaping with native plants.  The WSU Extension office at the Elma fairgrounds is the place\, and 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 is the time.  This class is free\, and no preregistration is required. \nOften times we are so busy checking out what is new at the local nursery and thumbing through plant catalogs\, we miss the beauty that can be seen in the natural landscape.  In Washington state we are blessed with a great variety of lush native plants that fit well into even the most grand and manicured landscapes and especially well into the pristine and simple garden. \nThis class\, led by Master Gardener Jude Armstrong\, a native plant expert\, will address the who\, what\, and why of gardening with native plants; where to buy them\, where to plant them\, how to group them. This class will be time well spent and can add another dimension to planning next year’s adventures in the garden. \nAfter the workshop there will be a half-hour plant clinic. SUMMARY:Sustainable Gardening by Propagating Herbaceous Plants Workshop - Ilwaco
DESCRIPTION:Fall workshop co-sponsored by the WSU Master Gardeners of Pacific County and the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. \nWe end our fourth year in collaboration with the Heritage Museum with our “Sustainable Gardening by Propagating Herbaceous Plants” gardening workshop on Saturday\, October 15th. Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to successfully propagate plants using stem cuttings. Bring a small sharp knife and a favorite plant to propagate and share.\nThe workshop begins at 10 a.m. Afterwards\, we invite you to join us for a work party in the Museum Discovery Garden. Bring your favorite gardening tools. The Discovery Garden is located behind the Museum’s parking lot at 115 SE Lake Street. Join us for education and fun at the Museum! \nPlant questions or problems? Ask a Master Gardener. The group will be sponsoring a plant clinic from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. at the Museum. If possible\, bring samples of your plant problem. Stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with your plant question or problem. The workshop and plant clinic are free and open to the public. \nIn addition\, we have Raspberry Sundae peony roots still available for sale\, just in time for fall planting ahead of next year’s springtime blooms.
